Joan is thrilled to be joining The Healing Solutions Center and share her experience and love of teaching yoga. A practitioner for many years, she received her 200-hour yoga teaching certificate from Shakti Vinyasa in Seattle, WA, where she learned the value and importance of teaching proper alignment, core strength and stability practices. In addition, she is trained to cue safe use of props and use gentle hands-on assistance when requested. Continued education and exploration of this wonderful practice has led Joan to expand her understanding of yoga asana to include the many health benefits and healing properties of such gentle yet powerful yogic traditions as Yin, Restorative, Aqua, and Chair Yoga as well as pranayama (controlled breath work) and guided meditation. Joan came to yoga at a time when feelings of depression, anxiety, and lack of self-worth caused her to feel stuck in a state of hopelessness and despair. The first class she ever took with friend and mentor Jessica Watson (RYT-500) completely shattered any preconceived notions Joan had about what yoga was and opened her eyes to the beautiful necessity of self-love. Her experience working with people of all ages, experience levels, and ranges of mobility has led Joan to a whole-hearted belief in a philosophy of yoga for everyone. Devoted to dispelling the widely propagated myths about yoga asana, especially those about the necessity of flexibility, mobility, and thinness, Joan welcomes everyone into her class. In addition to her 200-hour certification, Joan has taken courses in Yoga Therapy, Qi Gong, Iyengar Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. She is certified to teach Yin and Restorative Yoga and has years’ worth of experience teaching Chair Yoga, a style that makes this wonderful practice accessible to literally every……..body!
