As recovery coaches, we use strength- based support for persons struggling with active addiction or those already in recovery from alcohol, drugs, codependency, overeating or other addictive behaviors. We are helpful with making decisions about what to do with your life and the part your addiction or recovery plays. We also help you to stop addiction (abstinence) and reduce harm associated with addictive behaviors.
As recovery coaches, we can help you find resources for harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education as well as local and online support groups. We work with you to create a personalized plan to recovery. Our goal is to help you to live in the solution and become free from addictive behaviors.
Recovery coaches do not offer primary treatment for addiction. We do not diagnose and are not affiliated with any treatment programs or 12-step groups. We support any positive change, especially helping when you come home from treatment, to avoid relapse. We help you build a community support for recovery, in addition to working on life goals such as relationships, work, education etc. Recovery coaching is action oriented with an emphasis on improving your present life situation and reaching future goals.
As a life coach, we will counsel and encourage you with personal challenges, family dynamics, low self esteem, relationship issues, and life and career changes. We assess your goals and formulate strategies to help you meet those goals. We make recommendations based on realistic expectations by using attainable goal-reaching stepping stones. We also support and motivate you as you work toward lifestyle improvements.
As a life coach, we meet with you regularly; whether it is in person, skype, or on the phone to discuss your improvements and progress toward meeting your goals. We can help when you are going through transitions whether it is a relocation, unemployment, career changes or a new job. We can provide guidance and problem-solving methods for almost any life situation. We help you learn how to find your true passion, joy and fill your heart with happiness.
As meditation teachers, we will teach you how to move from panic and anxiety to confidence and serenity. Through exploring different schools of thought and philosophy, we will find a technique or techniques that work for you. This will further help you move from fear and anger to self- love and self- kindness, from lost to found.
Our goal is to teach people to begin to live in the present moment. Present moment awareness is the key to bringing the best version of yourself to whatever situation is at hand. We teach you to be reflective instead of reflexive, so you can respond instead of react.
When you begin to have a consistent meditation practice, our goal is for you to begin to notice subtle shifts in your thoughts, choices, decisions and your actions on a daily basis. This begins to cause a shift in your behavior and you realize that your perspectives have widened with an increase in clarity and a more extensive sense of calm. This begins to create an increased alliance between what you think, say and do. You will begin to display your more authentic self you have been hiding from your whole life.
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The predominate form of reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui reiki, was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century.
During a reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either directly on you or just above you to bring about healing. The belief is that the practitioner is able to stimulate your body’s natural healing abilities.
1. Relieves Stress, Anxiety and Fatigue
According to a review of randomized trials, reiki may help to reduce pain and anxiety, though more research is needed. It may also help to reduce fatigue. A 2015 study found that people being treated for cancer who received distant reiki in addition to regular medical care had lower levels of pain, anxiety, and fatigue. These levels were significantly lower than the control group, who only received medical care. Participants had 30-minute sessions of distant reiki for five days.
In another 2015 study researchers looked at the effects of reiki on women following cesarean delivery . They found that reiki significantly reduced pain, anxiety, and the breathing rate in women 1-2 days after having a cesarean delivery. The need for and number of analgesic pain killers was also reduced. Reiki didn’t have an effect on blood pressure or pulse rate.
A 2018 study compared the use of reiki to physiotherapy for relieving lower back pain in people with herniated disks.
Both treatments were found to be equally effective at relieving pain, but reiki was more cost-effective and, in some cases, resulted in faster treatment.
2. Treats Depression
Reiki treatments may be used as part of a treatment plan to help relieve depression. In a small 2010 study, researchers looked at the effects of reiki on older adults experiencing pain, depression, or anxiety. The participants reported an improvement of their physical symptoms, mood, and well-being. They also reported more feelings of relaxation, increased curiosity, and enhanced levels of self-care.
3.Enhances Quality of Life
The positive benefits of reiki can enhance your overall well-being. Researchers in a small 2016 study found that reiki was helpful in improving the quality of life for women with cancer. Women who had reiki showed improvements to their sleep patterns, self-confidence, and depression levels. They noted a sense of calm, inner peace, and relaxation.
4. Boosts Mood
Reiki may help to improve your mood by relieving anxiety and depression. According to results from a 2011 study, people who had reiki felt greater mood benefits compared to people who didn’t have reiki. The study participants who had six 30-minute sessions over a period of two to eight weeks showed improvements in their mood.
5. May Improve Some Symptoms and Conditions
Reiki may also be used to treat:
The relaxation response that happens with Reiki may benefit these symptoms and more.
Are There Risks or Side Effects?
Reiki is non-invasive and thought to be safe. It doesn’t have any known harmful side effects. For those with a past trauma, lying quietly in a dim room with someone close to you might be uncomfortable.
Reiki is not intended to replace any doctor-approved treatment plan.
